Dominic Scullion co-authors new edition of Prof. Robert Black’s book on written pleadings

Dominic Scullion, Lord Braid and Sheriff Lesley Johnston have updated and expanded Professor Robert Black’s ‘An Introduction to Written Pleading’, a much-lauded text first published over 40 years ago.
The book covers drafting the initial writ and the defences; adjustment and amendment; special causes (personal injury, commercial and family actions, petitions and summary applications); ethical pleading; and avoiding the pitfalls. In her foreword, Sheriff Principal Anwar KC (Hon) said:
“Whether you are a trainee, newly qualified or a seasoned practitioner in need of a refresh, this handbook provides a step by step guide to pleadings. If you follow its sound advice, you are likely to serve your client’s interests well, while also escaping the wrath of the judiciary… Lord Braid, Sheriff Johnston and Dominic Scullion, advocate, deserve great credit for distilling a technical subject matter into a readily digestible form and for honouring the original book by doing so with a lightness of touch and a sense of humour.“
The second edition of An Introduction to Written Pleading, published by Edinburgh University Press, will hit the shelves next month and is available for pre-order on the EUP website here. A 30% discount can be obtained by using the code: “NEW30”.”
